I have to use this book as a reference book because it is really full of unusual and useful techniques to improve any visual defects.
I bought it to help my sister because she is going blind with an incurable disease called retinitis pigmentosa. I am so impressed with the practices that I must incorporate them into my daily life and over time I am sure I will not need glasses. It is a book with so many helpful hints that I skipped the practices on nearsightedness since my problem is farsightedness and my friend told me to give him the pointers on nearsightedness. I guess I shouldn't skip around to cover just my personal problems, but be aware that others need help, too. Wish I had the expertise of Mantak Chia. Maybe one day I will study under him in Thailand. Wow! He is truely a master at healing the human body of its ills. You will not be disappointed with this book. Great read!

Good tuning reference

I'm an amateur mechanic and I recently invested in a 1G into a 2G car nobody else wanted to touch (even if I couldn't get it running I could still make money parting it out.) The wire harness needed a lot of work, and a Chilton's book (also bought here) helped me connect things back up. But the Chilton's book covers stock configurations, I needed info about the wire mods this car needed. This book had that info and I'm very happy. This book also helped me understand why the engine was swapped in the first place. If you have one of these cars and want more performance you can't go wrong with this book. Skip to the third chapter if you're an advanced mechanic.

If you're a DSM fan you should have this

Ah the famous bond of Mitsubishi and Chrysler that manufactured one of (if not the) most famous of all the tuning cars! These cars were the reason so many jumped into the import tuning scene and this book covers that history. And has some nice info on maintenance, tuning and upgrading. I'd say the book is more for the novice to mid-level DSMer but everyone who's an enthusiast will enjoy the book. And at the price it's selling for...it's a no brainer ;)

A humorous novel about English fox-hunting in the 19th century with a plethora of characters who display between all the faults of character of mankind that one still finds today, albeit the faults could be perceived as much more charming in a 19th century rural England setting

Fox-hunting highjinks

Robert Smith Surtees devoted his life basically to two things: fox hunting and novel writing, actually combining both into a single pursuit. He wrote a number of delightful novels centering around the fox-hunting society in and about Durham, England; this was his last book, published posthumously, and among his best. Facey Romford is a confidence trickster who passes himself off as his wealthy namesake, using the other's stationery to pull off the switch. He becomes Master of the Hounds of the Heavyside Hunt, and from that vantage point we are privy to all kinds of characters and happenings. The novel ends with Facey and his new bride going to Australia, not in disgrace, as was hoped by all who knew him, but where his fortunes only increase and all is well. Surtees's humor is broad and ruthless, and his observations on what makes this society tick are keen and perceptive. The novel presents an entertaining look at the sporting side of Victorian England.

About the Author

Geoffrey E. Mills

A native of Australia, Geoff moved to the USA in 1986 to undertake doctoral studies at the University of Oregon. After completing his Ph.D. in 1988, Geoff accepted his first teaching position at Southern Oregon State College (now Southern Oregon University). After 12 years of teaching, Geoff moved into university administration and was Dean and Professor of Education in the School of Education for 12 years. Geoff returned to teaching at Southern Oregon University in 2012 and now teaches educational leadership and educational research.

 

Geoff has traveled extensively and given invited presentations in Australia, New Zealand, Greenland, United Kingdom, Canada, and many states in the US. Geoff is also the author of Action Research: A Guide for the Teacher Researcher, now in its 5th edition.

Don't purchase if you need the etext access

The web link to access the etext is not correct. When the publisher, Pearson, is contacted they are of no help and accept no responsibility since the access was purchased through Amazon and not directly through Pearson. Amazon of course cannot help since the link was provided by the publisher. I feel I was ripped off by both companies, Pearson and Amazon. Buy this directly from Pearson if you want to avoid problems, and read on in the reviews, as I am not the only one to experience this problem.

$100 for a unbound book written on newsprint and a weblink to an etext that doesn't work.

You have to really love research to enjoy a book like this. I had to purchase it for a class and I gave it three stars based on the setup of the book itself. I only read about 1/3 of it, but it seems to be well written and provides a deep and detailed look into educational research.

A Beautiful Collection of Tantric Texts

Besides Buddhism itself, the Dalai Lamas are Tibet's greatest legacy. This beautiful collect of poems and short texts on Buddhism by various Dalai Lamas gives us a rare glimpse into its enlightened legacy.

We are extremely fortunate to have access to these rare texts, that in Tibet would have only been accessible to the privileged and the monastics, are available to us in beautiful and accessible language.

The Dalai Lamas on Tantra is an exceptional compilation of Tantric texts on a variety subjects within the Tantric path as uniquely preserved in the rich Tibetan Tradition. There are ten different texts on Tantra covering a variety of subjects from the most esoteric to the more well know. Each text is accompanied by a brilliant introduction by the translator, and provides an exceptional companion bringing relevance to each text and placing it within the context of the Buddhist path as a whole.

The Texts:

The Thirteenth Dalai Lama's A Brief Guide to the Buddhist Tantras is a wonderful and compelling overview of the Tantric path. In the second chapter the Seventh Dalai Lama provides a beautiful poem in relation to Heruka Chakrasamvara. In chapter three there is a wonderful commentary on the esoteric and profound practice of completion stage called the Six Yogas of Niguma by the Second Dalai Lama. In the next chapter we see a brief but beautiful text concerning Chenrezig, the Buddha of Compassion, in the form a poem. Next are the two texts related to the popular Kalachakra Tantra; the first is an introduction by the present Dalai Lama and the second is the First Dalai Lama's commentary on the generation and completion stages of Kalachakra. In chapter seven we find a rare glimpse into the highly esoteric from of transmission called Tantric Initiation into the life-practice of Hayagriva. Generally this text would be reserved solely for those who have received initiation into this very specialized and profound form of transmission. In chapter eight is the illuminating commentary to the two stages of Yamantaka or Vajrabhairava, this commentary although highly specialized penetrates deeply into the methods of progressing to enlightenment through this profound practice. Next is the Second Dalai Lama's explanation on how to survive solely small balls of flowers so that one may maintain strict meditation retreat under the harshest of conditions. And finally there is the Eight Dalai Lama's A Tantric Prayer.

There is few alive today who could translate these texts with the accuracy and eloquence that Glenn Mullin has provided. Not only is he one of worlds foremost Tibetologist - living most of his adult life amongst the Tibetans - but he has the experience of a life-time of Buddhist practice, making him uniquely qualified.

I would give this book the highest recommendation for anyone interested in Buddhist Tantra, the Dalai Lamas, or Tibet's mystical culture.
